Media today
It is so common in our society, and I wonder how often people stop to think about what they are watching. The average person watches over four hours of television a day? I don’t think I even want to know how often that average person spends on their cell phone. You could say I’m not with the “times,” however I feel that certain types of media are skewed, as well as too persistence in society today.
Television today
We all know who runs the television programs we watch… The entertainment business and advertising firms. Money is the most important equation in the end, next to the company’s “reputation.”
However,
Have you ever stopped to think about the news and how much of it is controuled by filtration of the broadcasting company’s choosing? Don’t you think that advertisers, who have degrees in rhetoric and marketing, plan out just how to convince their target audience that they need their product or need to continue watching their show?
I wish more people would pause.
Sure, certain TV programs and commercials viewers can approach with a rational thought process, leaving us viewers with the ability to decide that we don’t need that new vacuum… or no, we don’t want a 15th season of The Amazing Race...
Do you think that broadcasting companies use manipulation to an extent that the average viewer should be concerned?

Interesting ideas and questions. How do you think you can help?
ReplyDeleteI think you touched on a couple of ideas that are great. I myself have removed the TV from my apartment and I have to say that I don't miss it at all. People do spend a lot of time on certain mediums and forget what it is like without them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how much manipulation these companies actually impose on the average user. I doubt that they are sitting there laughing at meetings trying to find ways to corrupt our youth; however, they are trying to make money.
nah, i doubt they laugh ha.
